Review of processes and budget management tools in order to limit the costs of prototypes

Project outline

The Prototype Manufacturing Engineering Department (PMED) of this car manufacturer was asked by the group’s COO to rectify the budget overruns associated with prototypes. Pagamon assisted the PMED in reviewing the processes and tools for budget management in order to limit the costs associated with prototypes and ensure budget landing.

Project approach

  • Development of tools for budget management, gathering data from management control and PMED project managers.
  • Analysis and optimization of construction processes, validation and monitoring of prototype budgets, review of roles and responsibilities (RACI, SIPOC).
  • Review of the prototype costing method.
  • Diagnosis of the governance set up to ensure the budget landing.
  • Support for the follow-up of actions and decisions.

Results

  • Delivery of a dashboard for management control and project managers, allowing them to visualize management and project data (actual, commitments, projected budgets, etc.).
  • Delivery of a tool to compile Excel files allowing a follow-up of the budgets by project, range, year…
  • Recommendations for the governance of the budget landing committee.
  • Formalization of the processes to be followed and training of the operational staff.
