PAGAMON PUBLISHES A STUDY ON ORC MACHINES, RELAYED BY PÔLÉNERGIEIn view of the interest and relevance of the study on ORC machines conducted by Pagamon, Pôlénergie wished to publish the conclusions in its newsletter of April 2021.
Created in 2011 by the Regional Council of Nord-Pas de Calais and the Urban Community of Dunkirk, the association, law 1901, Energy 2020, became in 2018 PÔLENERGIE, brings together a hundred members including the entire value chain of energy (Production, Transport, Distribution, operators, electro-intensives, equipment manufacturers), the territories, associations and finally the academic world.
Its role is both to contribute to the animation of the energy sector in Hauts-de-France and to be a catalyst for networking between its members. Pôlénergie promotes the solutions and equipment of its members, proposes partnerships on a technical or economic level to its members and identifies the shortcomings of the sector and proposes solutions. It is therefore a tool for the growth of companies in the energy sector in Hauts-de-France.
As Christophe Bildé, President of Pagamon, explains, “Our analysis focuses on one of the most energy-efficient solutions: Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) machines. Installed on thermal power plants or production plants, they are powered by “free” energy – the waste heat from processes – and produce competitive, low-carbon electricity.”
So, are ORC machines an embryo of the grail in terms of energy efficiency? Whatever the case, these machines are a mature and economical technology. And as Pôlénergie points out, “more than ever, ORCs are an effective tool for recovering lost energy, improving the energy efficiency of production systems and providing additional income to manufacturers faced with fluctuations in world prices. They are a tool for the industrial revival desired by the public authorities. They are also a tool for territorial development and for maintaining local employment.”
