Evaluation of a Big Data initiative in R&D and definition of its roadmap

PROJECT OUTLINE

  • A division of a leader in the food industry has initiated a Big Data approach.
  • The objective is to provide R&D experts with high value-added data and analysis tools via the development of algorithms or by using market solutions.
  • To evaluate the profitability of the initiative, the company wants to identify the quantifiable and non-quantifiable benefits in relation to the costs.
  • To control its deployment plan, the company also wants to define a roadmap covering the entire initiative.

PROJECT APPROACH

  • Support for decision-makers and operational staff in the process.
  • Cost-benefit analysis of five pilot projects (use cases) identified as strategic.
  • Elaboration of the business case combining a “top-down” approach based on benchmarks and experts’ opinions with a “bottom-up” approach generalizing the results of the analyzed use cases.
  • Development of the initiative’s roadmap describing:
    • The foundations of the initiative: data strategy, technological landscape, etc.
    • The generalization of the high value-added services revealed by the pilot cases.
    • The new analysis tools made available and their use cases.
  • Drafting of a document presenting the initiative in all its dimensions: objectives, roadmap, business case, zoom on the first steps, etc.
